No annotations on each page

My problem with the Kindle Bantam Classic edition of Othello is that there are no footnotes at the bottom of each page. This means no immediate vocab definitions or comprehension aids. I bought the Kindle edition because my old Signet paperback Othello is yellow with age, plus tiny font. (I'm rereading Othello before watching the live performance starring Blair Underwood and Richard Thomas.) Not being a scholar of Elizabethan English, I do need annotative help with the vocab and idioms. So unfortunately, it's back to the old, barely readable but annotated Signet print version for me.

Why no 5 stars? This is the best purchase of my college career. Better than sparknotes and way better than the original old english version that makes no sense and is miserable to read.

I bought this for my Shakespeare class. Hell no I am not reading the original edition in hard to read language. This has a simple version next to it in PLAIN english so I can comprehend what the story is actually about instead of dozing off as i take in zero. It made me appreciate Shakespeare and enjoy this story. I used it for a college class (non-english majors) and I passed all quizzes and was able to discuss what happened and identify quotes. PLUS there is the original version on the page next to it. When the teacher asked what we thought the line meant I always had the answer.

This makes me ENJOY the story, PASS the class and save TIME. Get this series for each adn every shakespear book.

Great play, great electronic version

Othello was one of the first plays I was exposed to when I was younger. It has murder, suicide, intrigue and things that would get a teenager into Shakespeare.

I've had mixed success with some of the free Kindle versions of Shakespeare. Some have been good, some have been awful. This is an exceptional version. It's formatted nicely and is easy to read. The only "lack" is that it is without line numbers, so if you were to use this for academic reasons, you might have an issue or two.

Thus far, Othello's my favorite free Shakespeare play. I missed how much of a jerk Iago was, and all the deception that lead to Othello killing Desdemona.

Long Ago and Far Away, Part 1

In 1913 Elspeth Huxley moved to Kenya with her parents, who wanted to start a coffee plantation. They stayed until her father went to fight for England in the First World War. This book recounts this part of their lives. After the war was over the family returned to Kenya and Elspeth stayed until leaving for college as a woman-recounted in the book The Mottled Lizard. This book is a really entertaining read about their life in Kenya from the viewpoint of a young girl. Her mother is a comman sense housewife who runs the family and her father is a nice chap who has a lot of big dreams-most of them impossible to fullfill. We also get to meet a fair number of natives,, and their interactions the English settlers are the most interesting parts of the book. They spent thousand of years building their culture when, out of the blue strangers came to their land, took some of it, and built their homes on it. Sort of like if E.T. and his group came down and built their homes in Central Park. This book does an excellant job of describing the natives and the wildlife of Kenya(before most of it was killed and the rest kept in parks). I give it my highest recommendation.

Okay - historical value

This was a selection of the book club I am active in, and have to admit, it wasn't very exciting reading. Too many characters and a lot of descriptiveness that seemed overdone. It was amazing how the women adapted and were able to exist in such different circumstances than they were used to...a piano in a hut? it was okay, just not a favorite to me... It did manage to convey the culture of that time period and background on the African natives of the area.

A good story to share with my grandchildren

Having lived in Kenya and seen much of the area that this book represents I wanted to share it with my grandchildren.
The book arrived in good time and is in fine condition.
